TRADITIONAL ANGLICANS STAND WITH ROMAN CATHOLICS ON SAME SEX MARRIAGE

The Right Rev. George D. Langberg has issued a message to all clergy in the Diocese of the Northeast in support of the recent pastoral letter to Roman Catholic by Bishop Richard Malone of the Diocese of Portland regarding same-sex marriages.

“We fully stand with our brothers and sisters in the Roman Catholic Church on sanctity of marriage as God intended, between one man and one woman,” said Bishop Langberg.  “We believe that Bishop Malone’s message reflects sound Christian doctrine and fully reflects our own position on this issue.”

The message is in response to recent events where ministers in Maine representing several denominations, held a series of events urging Maine citizens to support same-sex marriages as a civil right.  “As Bishop Malone stated to his Roman Catholic flock, marriage is also a Holy Sacrament for us who are Anglo-Catholics and traditional Anglicans.  We do not believe that the Church should embrace anything that is contrary to Holy Scripture despite the fact that it is may become an acceptable lifestyle within secular society, “ Bishop Langberg continued.  “While discrimination is contrary to Our Lord’s message of love, marriage is a gift from God and should not be compromised for the sake of worldly acceptance when many governments have granted numerous rights to non-traditional couples.”
